Despite the constant ups and downs of surface water temperature the one thing effecting bass fishing right now is low water levels. As the prespawn time rushes in on us in South East Georgia typically we find bass slipping into those normal hideaways in shallow water and grass cover to begin the spawning. Problem right now is that most of those watery nursuries are dry as a bone. I have found fishing good if you can persuade yourself to give up old patterns of jigging for them until the water returns. For me, Strike King's lipfess crankbait has produced well. With 46 colors to choose from it is hard to nail down one in paticular. I pretty much settled on the "gold or chrome sexy shad". In addition I changed the hooks and doctored the paint scheme around the nose to have a bloodier look--have done so for quite a while and old habits are hard to break. Caught one well over 16 pounds and no sign of eggs. Put her back to work--hopefully she is still looking and February might put Georgia back in the record books. Pictures were not indicative of her weight. Camera phones are OK but don't depend on them for the one you've always looked for. Uncle Tom

As far as color selection I suggest to just keep it simple buy the Three colors you like most you got gold\chrome sexy shad already I would get a bait fish patter like bleeding gizzard shad my favorite and a clear sexysad for those sunny days. A color that works well up here in the NE is red in the early spring.
Sometimes when I color your onwn bait and make it custom it just gives me confidence in its funny how that works. I'm always tinkering with baits especially now that there's 7in of ice on top of the water up here.
Id love to see a picture of that 16lb beast Evan if the quality is poor. Make sure You go back out there with a big swimbait to offer up in February I bet you wont be disappointed.

You pull that thing out of Lake Gale, Uncle Tom? I'd like to know where those monsters are hiding.
