I really dont know why they have not worked for you.  I do know that spinnerbaits are very versatile and under certain conditions are second to none when used correctly.  Please read  all the posts under the spinnerbait section.

You need throw them at the right time in the right places with the right blades. Take a look in the spinnerbait section and the videos, do exactly what i write about with the baits and line etc that  I say, and If you don't catch bass doing it, i will lay down in a dirty puddle and drink the water on video.

blade type , blade color and size are much more important than the skirt color. So Id spend more time changing those than the skirt color. As a general rule you cant go wrong with white, white and chartruese or a bluegill color like copper or golden shiner. Weight of the bait is important at times as well. I normally start with 1/2 oz and go from there. Throw  them to any visible cover you  come across laydowns, grass, pads etc

Do you guys think the increase fishing pressure on today's lakes have caused spinner baits to be less effective?

Yes after the beginning of spring. That is why we throw a chatterbait and different spinnerbait configurations and brands than the average angler.

definately know when to use different types of blades, thats without a doubt the most important, steve and kurt explain them well in the vids, basic knowledge willow in warmer water colorado in colder water, in the wamer water your looking for the flash and colder water you need the vibrations of the wider blade, watch the vids, definately write down the brands they use, picasso etc, im about to buy a picasso or two for smith mountain tournament at the end of march. for this for example il throw a colorado most likely in half oz not sure on the color probably white or some variation of white, water temps in march are usually around 50 or so depends on the fronts and weather obviously but with the current winter we are having i predict a really cool march so the water temp may be low 50 high 40s prespawn situation i want a larger bait to entise the females trying to eat up before spawn, il start but covering water around docks, or slow roll in of a rocky point. hopefully this is an ok example, the vids do a great job explaining everything, good luck

Do you guys ever fish painted blades.  I've got several friends that like to fish white painted blades when targeting small mouth, but personally have never tried it.

Make sure you bang your spinnerbait into cover as much as possible and kill it for a second after making contact.  Just casting it out and reeling it in can work at times but the vast majority of the time you need to be imparting action to the bait the whole time.  Watch KVD fish a spinnerbait and you will see that he never stops twitching the rod tip.

I did 3 videos this year Travis and they are all with painted blades on the Picasso baits. Look at the painted blades on the spinnerbait here

I bought a Picaso last year with double colorado white blades, but never did try it.  Funny think, lures don't work if you never put em in the water:D

I constantly twitch my rod when fishing a spinnerbait and change rod angle to change the direction the baits running. I am a big believer in banging my bait into any cover possible. Lilly pad stems, pilings, rocks or logs. At times they want the bait killed after hitting the object and others react when you speed the bait up after it comes in contact. Experiment. As far as bass becoming conditioned to spinnerbaits due to pressure. Im not so sure. I think proper presentation, casting accuracy, blade size, blade type and color of both the blade and skirt can have more to do with why you are or aren't getting bit.I do believe fishing pressure is real and deserves consideration however if bass truly became conditioned to them you'd never catch a bass again on the potomac river. You go there on any given day from spring to fall and those bass see more spinnerbaits per day than a bass pro store can hold but they still hit them. However  I will admit  places like the potomac are where yo must find just the right combination based upon water clarity, depth of fish and predominent forage the bass are feeding on in that particular area. Speed of the bait and weight can at times also play a big factor.

one thing i do with spinner baits that works well is i rip them though cover and let them drop for a bit then bring it back up and it seems i get most of my stikes as the bait drops or when it gets free of the cover

A basic principle to help you catch that first spinnerbait bass is to reel the bait  just fast enough that you can just barely see the bait below the water. So if its muddy water you'll be reeling it faster if its clearer you'll slow it down. Theres much more to spinnerbait presentation but to get that first bass this is a good rule of thumb
