I noticed tackle warehouse has 7 different styles of zman chatterbaits. I'm interested in adding a few to my arsenal. Any suggestions on which styles are the best?

I like the Z-Man Original one mostly in 3\8oz or if your fishing deeper water the 1\2oz.

Tackle Warehouse has some Z-Man Silaflash ones on sale for $2,99 and to be honest the shirts on them are OK but they aren't durable and have allot of flash to them. But you can pick up some replacement skirts in your favorite color for that price

The Z-Man trailers series has an awesome Bluegill color too.

I like these but I use them all in different situations. These I use about 50% of the time.

I like the Pro Model that Steve posted because of the eye on the head but I always cut off the weedguard.

Gold or silver blades?

You can use either but you need both. It depends on the water color and clarity and the type of day, sunny, cloudy, etc

Read some more of my spinnerbait articles here to make a good decision.

Do yall ever use trailer hooks on chatterbaits?  I never have but i think it might be good if the cover will allow.

I like the Zman original the best, do to hook ups and landing fish. (great ratio with this bait compared to others I have tried) Gold blades on rainy days or murky water and silver most of the other days. But you never know so try them both. Black and Blue early in the year around cover produces the best for me and chart. white around pads and weeds. But you can add any skirt you want to them so make sure you have some with you when you go fishing. 3/8 oz. is the main size I use except for fall fishing I will use 1/4 and a small fluke to match the bait fish. I have tried to use a trailer hook but I fish these baits to aggresive around cover so the trailer gets snagged alot.

As for a trailer hook Like sisezz72 I throw these baits in the cover, grass, lillys, hydrilla, tails aggressively its virtually weedless and comes threw the cover well the trailer hook would not allow you to fish the bait at its best. It would catch allot of junk.

In my experiences the chatterbait is also a go-to for wood but just as a warning if its your only one stay away form the wood the bait is weedless but with no fiberguard it will occasionally get hung up. Maybe its just me be because I try to hit every branch on the lay down but that was one of my most lost lure when fishing wood.

My favorite colors are white or shad, chartreuse\white, and always bluegill. Mostly have the 3\8 but I got 1\2oz ones for deep water and for the swimbait trailers.

Never used the trailer hook on a chatterbait. I prefer the original chatterbait it seems more erratic and has a better hookup ratio plus its just a confidence thing. In the stained water here in the ponds and rivers in the northeast I go with the gold bade most days but have done well with the silver blade on schooling bass on the potomac. I like to take off the skirt and put a strike king perfect skirt in sexy shad or chart/white most of the time. I will mix in a bluegill or golden shiner pattern at times. In early Spring I have done well on black and blue in dirty water.

This is a kind of retarded question, but I haven't ever fished with chatterbaits before..do you guys tie on at the jig head and let the flip flap around free, or do you tie on where the clip is on the blade?

If it has a lot of frogs I just throw a frog. lol I dont imitate anything but a baitfish with a chatterbait 100% for sure. There is no way they think that is a frog if you are working it right.

Does anyone modify there chatterbait?  I bend the blade in a little on mine. It gives it about 3x the vibration than normal!!  It wants to shake the rod out of your hand! lol

Nope, just use braided line when water clarity is right.
