When do you choose a chatterbait over a spinnerbait? What colours of chatterbaits do you use and under what conditions do you use them?

Hi Patrick Take a look here in the chatterbait section there are about 20 videos and at least 15 posts on this topic. If you do not see it then I will elaborate further.

I've read many posts on chatterbaits on this website. I can say that I got the colour choices down but not so much when to use it? And when to choose it over a spinnerbait. I love throwing spinnerbaits, im sure I would love throwing chatterbaits <-- but I dont know when! lol

OK I throw it all the time whenever they are hitting a spinnerbait. it just takes more bass than a spinnerbait. I use it starting in the Spring in all the same locations as the spinnerbaits. If you throw a spinnerbait and a few hit it, put on the Chatterbait and way more will hit it. That is really all you need to do. Start throwing it in about 3-4 weeks and hang on. lol

So I should start the day off with a spinnerbait in the morning and as it gets warmer throw a chatterbait? Thats what I was thinking would work best. Just to get the spinnerbait bass and chatterbait bass?

Sometimes the spinnerbait bite will be awesome for an hour and then shut down. When that happens grab the chatterbait and they will smack it! If there is sparse grass I go with a spinnerbait but if the grass is thick and there is water above the mat then I go with the chatterbait and rip it free when it gets snagged.

Thanks for the tip MarcBorger! I will definetly put it to use! So now I know about the grass aspect but what do I go with when fishing cover such as wood and laydowns? Do you ever fish it around rocks?

Evrywhere you would throw a spinnerbait, throw the chatterbait.

First off the chatterbait is absolutely AWESOME when the water hits 50 and is on a warming trend. You can slam them in early spring. Most days its the best bait you can throw during those conditions. But its still great the rest of the year. I throw it in open water, wood, grass, rocks and pads. Once it warms up I love burning this bait so it wiggles erratically as well. I love spinnerbait fishing and have caught more big bass on it than any other lure but I have to admit more and more Ive been throwing the chatterbait first
