Arrived about 7:30am. Mostly sunny with air temp appoximately 38* with steady winds @ 25mph and water temps locked @ 35*. 99.9% of the lake was open other than a few spots on the South East end of the pond and an occaissional sheet of ice floating by.
Long Pond in Brewster and Harwich is a 716 acre natural great pond, the largest freshwater pond on Cape Cod. It has an average depth of 23 feet and a maximum depth of 66 feet. Transparency is good, extending to 14 feet, and aquatic vegetation is scarce. The bottom is composed of sand and rubble. The pond’s 6.4 miles of shoreline is moderately developed with houses, seasonal cottages and beaches. Three small ponds are connected to the main pond by small channels: Black, Smalls and Greenland Ponds. The entire system drains into the Herring River. During the summer, dissolved oxygen levels drop below 2 ppm at 34 feet and deeper. Gear for the day: 7'2" Kistler Argon rated to 1 1/2oz, Shimano Curado 200 E spooled with 17lb XPS Fluoro. Hudd 68 in Perch either dead sticked or slowly dragged a few inches at time across the bottom. Bass Pro Shops 7'6" Carbonite rated to 1 1/2oz, Shimano Curado 200E spooled with XPS 17lb Fluoro. Dirty Jigs Finesse football jig in the Go To pattern and Xcite Baits Raptor Tail chunk in Okechobee craw. Dragged, dead sticked or slowly swam close the the bottom trying to make contact with any structure I could find which was next to zero. Bass Pro Shops 7' CarbonLite rated to 1oz with a Shimano Chronarch 100B spooled with 14lbs Seaguar Fluoro AbrazX. Exite Baits Maximus in Grean Pumkin Purple flk and their X-lock stand-up jig. Dead sticked or slowly hopped. St Croix 7' M Avid rated to 5/8oz converted over to a split grip and forecork removed, Shimano Corado 200E spooled with 12lb Seaguar Fluoro AbrazX. Koppers Live Taget Threadfin Shad. Cranked down and suspend with pauses up to 30 seconds. St Croix 7' Premeire rated to 1/2oz and a Shimano Sahara 2500, spooled with 8lb Seaguar AbrazX. Mustad Wide Gap Dropshop hook, Eco Pro 1/4oz Tungsten Drop Shot Weight and roboworms 6" Straight tail in Aaron's Magic. My fishing buddy Matt threw tubes jigs and flukes. Absolutely BRUTAL out there with 3ft swells and by the end of the day 40mph winds. Took some video but only of the brutal condtions and one sneaky wave that came over the bow.(14' Tracker Jon) We worked extremely hard covering a wide varity of depths with nothing to show for it, other early season Raccoon face:lol: It was still great finally getting on some open water and a chance to try out some of the new lures. Looking forward to getting back out this Sunday with John N, hopefully with less wind and much better resusts.

Addicted may be an under statement. My buddy Matt was scared poopless and kept begging me "PLEASE LETS NOT CROSS THE LaKE AGAIN!"

Depneding where we end up the Craw dad might be your best bet. We tend to hit the smaller less pressured ponds.
