Anyone else think the true colors of our fine state lurk in the waters of Hoops Resevoir? On this site we talk a lot about fishing pressure and a recent post got me thinking about this. Hoops has just about no pressure aside from the few who disregard the "no fishing" signs and do it anyway. Anyone have any info on whether there was ever a time when you could launch a boat at Hoops? If so, when did this get discontinued?

Yes There is one in there, and there were brief periods where they flirted with letting you have a boat there with limited success, but there is no way any land owner there with the influence they have are going to ever let you on there to fish. They do though if they want to, but there is nobody that actually lives on Hoopes that could give a rats ass about any state record. lol

Do you think it is reasonable to say there could be upwards of a 13-15lb fish in there?

Skeez, are you dropping a line in today? I'm going to be in north wilmington today at a store and I will probably stop by bellevue and a few other places.

Probably not because of the genetics and they are northern strain, but after seeing the one from the Potomac last year?? maybe. I would think it is most likely around 12 or 13 lbs. But they really need a lot of shad or Tilapia or trout or a combination of shad and tons of crawfish, to get that big, but more important even than that is the proper genetics.

This is my kinda thread! I dunno the biggest fish at hoopes but I can tell you I've seen some extremely large bass while they were bedding last spawn. And I mean WELL larger than any bass I've ever seen caught. Reminded me of some of the bass I saw bedding in FL. I've always been so nervous to fish it, but my buddy last night was actually telling me he sees people fishing it all the time during summer by the 82 split with no worries. They park and actually had their kids out with them fishing. I'm confused bc I thought the cops would be there quickly if one of the houses saw you. With this in mind however, I will now know my spawn destination in a few weeks when I return from FL. Sean, I know you're with me!

Mike This time take way more video in Florida and put it all together in a 10 minute video or two. Use this program to edit it. It is great. AVS4U. Just go to AVS4U.com and download it.

If you want to catch a state record you have to not fish for anything else, use only the baits and tactics that will take it, fish at some really bad times weatherwise, and fish only in places where large bass have been taken in the past after making sure there were no fish kills inbetween that time. It is something that most people do not have the time or patience to do.
