Wait about one to two seconds or until you feel the weight of the fish then sock it to em with braid on the reel for sure. Always wait until you feel the weight and always use braid of at least 50 lb test minimum.

With any topwater baits you want to wait approximately 2 seconds, however, when I have a strike I am too excited to count so once the fish hits it... reel in the slack and wait till you feel the weight of the fish and then set the hook! Especially with braid, I use braid with all topwater baits and I have quickly adapted to this rule. Try it out and let me know how it works. Also because it is a frog, maybe try bending the hooks out to increase the chances!

One thing one of my boaters taught me i once the bass hits your top water, drop your rod which gives the bass slack, then wait and set the hook

They said it. If my frog/topwater went underwater with the fish, ill reel until i feel weight, then slam em home.

Is Braid a must for top-water? does the lack of elasticity just help get the hook set?

I dont use it for smaller topwater like a rebel pop R or spooks, then ill use mono, but when your fishing frogs in that heavy vegatation you need the strength of braid to pull them out and it will cut through some of it.

Braid is a must for frogging because there is a lot of plastic that can get in the way of the hook and because you are usually fishing in heavy grass or pads. The lack of stretch helps get the hook set properly. On a popper or walking bait you don't have to have braid since the treble hooks should hold as long as you keep pressure on the fish.

Charles you should use braid and a 7ft med heavy rod atleast if you want to hook them and get them out of cover,There are alot of reasons why braid is the only way to do it right, there are many post about it

I have missed 21 fish in one day on a frog and then I have had days where I catch 15-20 and don't miss one. I think a lot of it has to do with whether they really want it or not (like on a crankbait if its barely hooked on the back hook or if its down its throat) Ya know what Im saying? If your missing them a lot might be time to switch over to a lure with a treble hook... BUT, if they are taking it completely under and u feel the weight of the fish and your missing them just keep trying.
Frog Gear:
40-65 pound power pro braid
7'-7'11" MH-XH rod
Spro, or Koppers frog do the trick for me.
As far as how long to set the hook, wait 1-3 seconds or until you feel the weight of the fish and with your drag high set the hook pretty dang hard.. sometimes I set it so hard I worry about my rod snapping(Ive done it to a few already lol) I hope this helped. Good fishin' and God bless!

You need a rod and reel setup for frogs,I use a med heavy 7"ft with 50lb prower pro,i use the rod for frogs and jigs in heavy cover,so the rod could be used for 2 or 3 baits, you could use it for buzzbaits to

Iv told you already you need a good med heavy rod and a med rod to get started, those two rods will work for several baits,Thats what you need to do first, without the rods and reels the lure's are no good if your not using the right equipment
