I was at the beach this week and without internet access so I have not been able to post this until now. Last weekend my friend Mike came in from California for a fraternity reunion (of sorts) and we fished on Saturday. We launched out of Belle Haven looking for numbers since Mike is a fishing beginner and I wanted to keep this simple. We each caught several bass but this snakehead was the biggest snakehead I ever caught. It hit a blue fleck power worm in grass just south of belle haven and weighed 11lbs and was 35" long. We ate it and it was fantastic! Chatterbaits and soft plastics were the only thing getting bit.

That thing is a beast and that looks delicious! I heard there is a ton of them in the canals down there!

I have never fished the canal but they are all over the river! I was shocked at how hard it was to kill, I have eaten these before but they were usually easy to kill. I cut around the spinal cord of this fish but could not puncture the spine to sever the head until I whatcked it with a hatchet. The fish was still moving hard until I severed the spine even though all the guts and muscle had been severed off the head!!!

I caught a small one like 15'' early this year and i just pulled out the knife on my multitool and into the top of the skull. Sounds like fun! They did one of the River Monsters shows down there on them and were having blow ups nearly every cast.
