Got out today to try out my new Powell 705 and 201E7 that I got for the labor day sale along with some new punching gear witch included a 1oz Miller Punching Weight. I rigged it up on 65# Power pro and an Owner 7\0 over sized worm hook with a Blackberry 5in paca craw ( thank you Steve for those)

On a side note I hooked into a big bass that I estimated at over 7lb 2 months ago then in the same area had one witch I think is the same bass follow a SB to the boat a week later then later that day blow up on my frog saw the fish but missed the frog this is all on a small 75 ft stretch of water . I have been pounding this spot for this bass and today I hooked her for second time on the punch rig but came unbuttoned when she broke threw the mat throwing the pointed 1oz weight and 7\0 hook right at my head luckily I turned and got it in the side of the head  .

I did manage to get one in the boat on the punch rig today was a chunky 18in 3lb fish, and 3 others not picture worthy but all over 1.5lb I was amazed at how well the Miller weight came threw all the snot, pads, grass, tails, this thing gets into any where with out bombing the thing 20ft in the air you just place it quietly on the mat and raise your rod give it a shake and your in cant wait to see one of these in tungsten so you don't have to use such a big hook..

Thats really nice and really well thought out. Thats the deal Bud. Thats what we do on the Potomac, Champlain, Florida, anywhere it can be done, it should be done.

I havnt tried the miller weight but I have a buddy in Ocala Fl who swears by it. I always throw a 3/4 to 1 maybe 1.5 oz tungsten punch/flippin weight. I rig it with a bobber stopper than the weight and than a 4/0 or 5/0 B.M.F. (thats bad mother flipper) straight shank hook. The B.M.F. comes with a bait keeper and a welded shut eye. I always use power pro 65lb braid, no leader.

You can punch any kind of thick vegetation. Start at the edge and work into the heart of it. Also it helps to let the bait soak a second or two and yo-yo it.

Paycheck baits makes it now but Andre from Reaction Innovations says he still has a ton of them.

This site carries them and you might be able to find them on ebay or check paycheck baits out
