I hear many people saying they dont like to fish jigs because fishing them is too slow, they say "i would rather be throwing a spinnerbait." For me a jig is my number one search bait. when i go to a new lake the first rod layed out on the deck of my boat is my flipping/pitching rod with a 1/2 jig with an arkie style head (DJ pitchin' jig) most people start shallow when they go to a new lake and beat the bank, i will do the same knowing that at most times of the year bass relate to shallow wood, docks, and chunk-rock. what i do is turn my trolling motor on high and hit the key areas, i dont spend much time because i am SEARCHING i make the pitch, let the jig hit the bottom lift it a couple of times, reel in and make the next pich. This power fishing tactic allows me to locate bass just as fast as throwing a spinnerbait and allows me to work heavier cover. just my opinion, let me know what you guys think of jigs as search bait

You know what I think. I do the same thing, working 2 different jigs in different colors, with different trailers, as search baits.

Last year I used jigs alot more than I have this year, because I have been using new baits and trying some different things. Next year I should use them more again though.

i like jigs..but not as much as a crankbait for searching for the bass..once i find them i will usally throw a stickbaits at them cause they will hit that most of the time..jigs r good but not my go to

I'll throw the Jig a lot too but will use a crankbait or Rattle trap to cover water fast and find grass.

50-65 lb braid, heavy action rod and a locked down drag done right and you can bend out any jig before the line breaks, then just take a pair of pliers and bend the hook back and when your fishing them in heavy cover dont try to rip it out, slowly lift and drop multiple times and youll snag less, popping it in heavy cover bends down the weedgaurd exposing the hook resulting in snags.

yessir, i fish my jigs when flipping/pitching on fluro, but in weeds or pads i used 80 pound braid.... Try to shy away from using braid in brush, docks, and laydowns because it cuts into the wood if you get wrapped up. Fluro is great in brush, docks, rocks and any sort of man-made structure such as, sunken boats, metal, and pontoons, braid cuts around metal and rocks...for me fluro is a no-brainer, it even works well in light vegitation.

double what ryan said. i pick my lines based on what I'm throwing in. I can say by the end of last year, I was swimming jigs as a search bait over any cranks/rattles/chatters/spinners. The fish just cant seem to let it go by more than a few times before something has to hit. Also, based on a lot of what I personally fish, the swimjig gets through more of the thick stuff and grass/algae with not much gunk clinging to the bait. this obviously makes power/fast fishing much more efficient
