Well its definately winter time in AZ but im not sure the fish in Alamo realize that. I went out yesterday to prefish for tournament this coming Saturday and was surprised with what I found. Water temps in low 50's to start and got up to 58 today, very few clouds, no wind at all, and the fish were SHALLOW!? Started off the day catching fish in couple feet of water and it seemed to be the bite. Fished from 1ft -40ft and they weren't even school anywhere they should have been. Not on steep drops, not on long sloping points with deep water, not on the deep trees, etc. All the fish were caught in less that 5ft today on blades or dropshot. The bite wasn't on fire but a definate pattern emerged before the end of the day. The weather we are having the next few days will probably change things a little bit but Im sticking with it and making changes as needed. This one was above the slot at 17.5 inches and weighed 3.19, it was one of the few healthy fish in the lake, most were long and skinny.

Well it was a lesson learned at Alamo this weekend. I NEED to use a trailer hook on my spiinerbaits! It was a tough day of fishing but not overly tough. It would have been much better if I didnt lose fish repeatedly on my spinnerbait throughtout the day. Fish were still very shallow and the bite was great first thing in the morning. I caught nothing but slots until the end of the day and lost two very nice overs, one on a 1.5 square-bill crankbait and the other on a spinnerbait on almost the last cast. Two lost overs in last 30 mins hurt! All in all the fishing is decent with a winter pattern right now of fish in under 5ft of water hotting reaction baits! Wish all the lake had this pattern. I will be putting an order though here to Tackle Warehouse for some trailer hooks right after I finish this update.

At least you were out there fishing, unlike me, working this weekend... Put it behind you and concentrate on Havasu!

Well Alamo is fishing like Alamo always does, small! Had a tournament this weekend and the fishing was amazing but way too many slot fish! Started the morning throwing Ricos and sqaurebills and the bite was fantastic. Fish after fish, but couldnt find any overs. My partner and I decided to make a move when things slowed down a little and try a flat with grass mats, but all the same size fish. We located a drop on a point that help rock just outside the grass and it produced a fish nearly every cast. I was throwing a carolina rigged baby brush hog and my partner was throwing a shakey head or a senko when fish boiled in front of the boat. It helped us fill out our limit and cull a few slots to fatter slots. With no overs in the boat we made a run to shallow water near the river inlet which was extremely stained. We fished through the trees and sticks with no luck. We decided to try the rocky point pattern and it was the right idea. We culled a few more times throwing carolina rigs and my partner was throwing a chigger craw on a shakey head. We upgraded our unders and slot to the most that we could hoping to find that bigger fish, it just didn't happen. The weights were really close, hundreds of ounces seperated everyone but the winners. They went super shallow, under a foot of water, with buzzbaits and chatterbaits in a pocket in the river and won by over 2lbs. It was a fun trip with tons and tons of fish caught!

This lake turned brutal! Had a tournament here and partner and I finished 6th place, with just 2 fish. We did catch the big fish of the tournament, 3.00lbs. First place was just over 6lbs. The lake has turned over and water is filthy. Caught fish on carolina rigged brush hogs, other caught them on squarebills from what they said. Hopefully this lake turns around and gets some water in it!

This lake is still beyond brutal. The water is in the 47-49 degree temp. falling water and only about 2-3% full. The fishing is, to the the least, horrible. Only 8 out of 24 teams weighed a fish and thats with no size limit. 7 of those weighed 1 fish a piece. There is supposed to be another tournament next week but the fishing was so bad the tournament director is trying to switch lake locations. My partner and I threw everything we had in the boat it seems and couldn't even find a bite. Hopefully this lake gets some water in it and the fishing should turn back on in few months if it does.

I can't say it any better Chris. Alamo is just tough. With low water conditions and low temps it is almost like you just get lucky if you get a hit. Now this weekend the weather is turning cold again with rain in the forcast. Super Teams has been moved to Lake Pleasant which should be better but withthe cold front it should prove to be another tough one. I'm headed to Roosevelt Lake to do some prefishing but weather there is doing the same. Should be interesting.
