This is a tuned up reel that I own with ZPI Bearings that went through my treatment. Remember this is a 105 spool and very light and doesnt hold much line so there is not a lot of rotating mass to make it spin super super long. If this was a heavier spool that held more line I could get some where like 2-2 1/2 mins. another thing I dont spin the handle real hard and then hit the thumb bar as it will damage the kick plate so this is just with a slight spin of the handle if I spun it harder of course it would free spool longer. The spool is spinning at 21 seconds.

So after adding those bearing's how much more distance can you expect to get? Also will this cause more backlash? I ask that because I usually have no tension on the sppol but my thumb.

I tune reels for people all around the country, I have a very loyal customer base and do around 20 reels a day year round. I have tricks for Daiwas and Shimanos that will make the reels a lot better then they was when they was new. I clean, tune, rebuild and upgrade all brands of reels. last year over 9000 reels came through my services. I run no spool tension on my reels and very little breaking most times I never set mags more the 3 and 0 and 1 being the most used settings, the only time my mags are set over three is when skipping baits and I then will go to 4 or 5 Im a very skilled casted and most people cant handle that fast of a spool without turning the breaks up but when you learn to control it you wont ever want to fish anything but a reel with no breaking. Yes there will be a small learning curve to to control the much faster spool but nothing huge leave your spool with just enough tension to stop the spool from having side to side play and set your breaks up higher and go down from there in till you start to over run then go back up one. The big difference will come in how well it will throw lighter baits, on the right rod that Ito/105 spool will cast a 16th oz great. you will get distance gains of 15-20% over stock but where you will really notice it is how much easier you need to cast to get the same distance once tuned. there is more to getting a free spool like that then just changing the bearings but just doing a bearing upgrade will do a lot. Any questions feel free to ask.

Please message me with your number. Perhaps we can work something out as most of the people i paint reels for have a need for a reel tear down service. Paul

Hey long range I have a question for you. I just tried cleaning my boca abec 5 that i put in my curado e7 on the spool last spring. I put them in lighter fluid for a little while let them dry and then hit them with a drop or two each of ardent reel oil. I just went outside and gave the reel a test cast. It feels smooth and casts far but the bearings sound really loud. Can you help me and tell me what i did wrong?

I just got my Shimano Curado 50E back, and man is it crazy. I havnt gotten a test cast yet (stupid snow) but the free spool is very impressive. I got the whole 9 yards done, breaings and all. Cant wait to use it next year. I suggest if you have a old reel or even a new one you send it to him, he will let you know everything that is being done to your reel, answer all your questions, and let you know when the reel is shipped back out. I think it took roughly a week to get back, which is very good! Thanks Long Range!!

Soaking bearings in lighter fluid is a way to flush them but IT IS NOT a way that you should do it.. some people say its the best way and trust me it is not it leaves deposits on the balls and you cant get them off it will speed up the bearings but the way I do it takes a long time to REALLY flush them but will provide 3 to 5 times more performance out of the bearing and they will come out totlly clean and totally flushed to the metal leaving NOTHING on the surfaces and no pitting of the steel balls or races. On ceramic bearings you can get away with doing them in lighter fluid but still they do not come out clean.. IMHO if you want to do a flush your self the best way to do it is with hot water and dawn dish soap to melt down the grease that Shimano puts in the bearings (Thats the stupidest thing ever they grease there spool bearings... lol) then the bearings do in to Acetone for a while to eat up the rest of the junk in the bearing.. Once again this is not how I do them and is not the best way BUT it will give you a decent spinning bearing and it will be fairly flushed. The flushing method I do is from many many years of trial and error finding the best way to strip a bearing down to the true surfaces inside the bearing and thats what you want it takes about 25 to 30 hours to do it but the bearings come out with NOTHING in/on them and like I said thats what you want. See if you flush a bearing and get 65-70% of everything out of them (Lubes, dirt, grime, manufactering lubes ect ect.) and there is still different types of lubes in them as there will be unless you do a flush like I do then when you add your oil to it then the oil blends with the other lubes and thats a BIG NO NO the lubes will then reject each other and fail you CAN NOT mix different types on lubes as they will fail.
What has happened is that when you flushed them in that stuff it left deposits inside the bearing that your lube mixed with then failed and more less totally stopped working and chances are have caused pits in the races and balls and thats what you are hearing the rolling surfaces are no longer smooth and causing LOTS of friction and heat when the spool is spinning fast and adding lube with help it but it will get worse and worse until you have a bearing fail and then you run the risk of messing up other stuff like bending a spool shaft or cracking a pinion gear and more. I would say you need to send it in and have the bearings upgraded/replaced before you have a bearing fail and mess up 80-100 dollars worth of parts. I will do a super tune, cleaning and ABEC7 bearing upgrade for 86.00 and that includes TG Rocket ABEC7 bearings that are with out a doubt the best bearings out there besides for ZPI's that cost double what they cost... The TG 7's are better then Boca 9's... if you just want the bearings replaced the cost for the TG 7's are 41.00 plus return shipping of 6.50
