I'm fishing the delaware river this weekend with some crawfish jigs, tubes, and marabou jigs. I ALWAYS seem to get hung up in the rocks, or stuck somewhere while fiddling around on the bottom. Now, I've heard several peices of advice..I've heard to open the bail, raise the rod, and keep going.. some say to rip it out, some say to lightly tug it, no matter what always seem to lose my rig. any suggestions? I'll either be in a kayak or on the shoreline... I know in a boat theres always a bit of elevation/leverage. Thanks!

Bow and arrow method. I described this somewhere else a long time ago. Had a video up on it. I bet its here somehere. I will look when I get a chance in the largemouth tips and tactics section and see. I bet if I put up a contest to see if somebody can find it they will find it fast!! lol

If i fall out I probably wont be making it back to shore lol and i'm more concerned with losing all of those lures to rocks! i'll be sure to bring a decent amount

A yak? Youll hardly lose any, its very easy to position yourself directly over top the bait and shake it loose or drop your tip down to it, this season on the river, using open hook baits on the bottom, i think ive lost....4 or 5 baits? And thats over 30 trips, wood can be different as you can actually bury yourself into it, in that case you usually need to drop your tip to it, or have some kind of lure retriever, i have an 8 oz lead bank sinker and a big snap swivel for wood snags in the kayak. Cant wait to hear how you do.

Good luck, I mean it. The Delaware river, (except for certain Select sections and small fish), sucks in my opinion even at best, and in the winter, forget it. If you catch some decent bass of any species out of there this weekend, I will be proud of you and I want to see pictures. In my opinion, there are not really many major rivers I would not like to fish, but the Delaware, Three Rivers in Pittsburg, after the Classic in 2005, man I am really turned off to that river!), lol, and maybe the Missipillion in Delaware, have to be three of my "I dont want to fish them anymore", rivers!! They really suck, and the Nanticoke, except for a few spots at select times, and smaller average fish at that, Sucks Too! I remember a time when it was good and compared to what it was when Bassmaster came here and fished it in the Top 100 days, it stinks. So good luck on the Delaware, I hate it.

It's hard to believe how many tournament's they have on the Delaware river, i have no interest in it.  They had a B.A.S.S. Federation Regional last year on it and i think 10+ pound's won for 3 day's!!  Not for me!!  lol

I bought a lure retriever that basically was a heavy galvanized steel ring with two heavy non-barbed treble hooks hooked to it and it had a gap with a gate-like snap to allow your line inside the ring. The ring had heavy (250 lb) string tied to it. You simply snap it around your line and let it drop to your lure. The treble hooks grab whatever you're snagged on. Then you rip the snag up to you and retrieve your lure.

Believe me, I've tried many lure retrievers but this one actually works! They are inexpensive to buy, or you can make one yourself. I hope this information helps. Good luck!
