This past season I have tried various types of hooks for my wacky rigs. Circle, Octopus, Weedless Gammy, and EWG hooks. Being the type of angler I am I like and need to set the hook. That style was a complete failure when I used the circle and octopus hooks, where you have to start reeling in to set the hook as opposed to really setting it in like do you with a EWG hook. Although EWG hooks are not really meant for wacky rigging I am thinking of trying a straight shank hook. Any thoughts? What do you folks use?

Steve, How is your hook set? Do you do a traditional hook set, or start reeling it in to set the hook? What size? 5" Worm 4" Worm

Yes Andy I use a traditional hook set but I dont cross their eyes like I do with braid, lol I set the hook so hard with braid that fish under 2 pounds fly out of the water!

I used them this year Alan and didnt have great success using the a traditonal hook set. Also, I found the weed guards to be a bit flimsy. Where as the hooks Steve V uses the guard is more aggressive.

Andy, I said " And these" because steve uses those also, Ive had alot of success with those hooks but it was more of a part sweep, part traditiional, Fish picks up the bait and is moving left, upward and right hookset. These work better for light cover while when in brush or heavier cover the wicked wacky works better.
