I just wanted to see who out there still uses Mepps spinners, or inline spinners for bass. I feel like these lures have really been forgotten or frowned upon recently. I have personally caught bass on the inline spinner where bass wouldn't hit a standard twin-blade spinner. I've caught 3 pound bass on Mepps spinners. I think people should start using these things more often. I've especially done well on smallies with them, but thats a different topic. I just want to know why you don't see these used alot. People say these lures are better for other species, but me personally, I have caught nothing but bass on these lures. It's something to think about.

A red roostertail spinner. Caught plenty of smally and rock bass out of the Brandywine river in my area. If you wanna have fun throw one on a micro-ultralite rod!!

Mepp's i think does, when i was younger they did. They make a super roostertail, but i don't think they were as popular. Panther martin is another brand to look for.

I'll have to look around, I want to start throwing them more often, along with spoons, I just wanted to see if anyone had something to say about them. I've been looking into finding more traditional ways of bass fishing, kindof like buying silver/gold/chrome stuff. I had alot of luck throwing classic looking traps in the falltime. I'm trying to go with a little less mainstream stuff this season, just to mess around with, while using newer stuff at the same time lol, idk. Just experimenting

Get yourself a couple Johnson silver and gold minnow spoon. Put a grub as a trailer, they are weedless and great to use.

we've caught bass up to 4.5lbs on 1/2oz roostertails. in fact, in one of my smaller retention ponds this is the lure they will hit no matter what. they absolutely cant stand it. whenever I get some short strikes or my spinnerbait isnt working (but should be) I throw these on. I got a black/silver blade, chart/gold blade, and white/silver blade. That's really all you need as the fish goes more for the flash. Caught just as many on my chart as my older rainbow trout pattern on the same pond, the same day multiple times. I do lose a ton tho bc it's instinct to hookset when the blade stops, and a lot of times it's some structure i get deeply hooked into. always make sure you upgrade the stocker hooks too! helps a ton with keeping fish on

Thanks man, I never thought about upgrading the hooks but thats a solid idea! I couldn't agree with you more about the retention ponds idea. It's so true. I feel like a rooster tail isn't the first thing people throw at them, so it always gets knocked. The hair definitely adds to the lure in general.

There are only two times and situations where these are more effective than anything else. In the winter in very cold clear water, or in the hottest summer months in deeper water, or in any situation where the bass are highly pressured and not hitting anything else. The rest of the time there are way more effective baits for decent bass.
