I know there is probably a section dedicated to this, but I have no idea what to search to find it, so here is my question.

I am looking into a jersey and there are companies that I constantly use and want to promote, but I am not sponsored and don't have permission to use their logo.  I'm assuming that I need to call the company or send them an email or something, but I just thought I'd ask and see what you suggest.

I know there is a lot to getting sponsored, but I'm really just looking to promote (no sponsorship necessary).

Im pretty sure  you dont need the companies permission as all your doing is giving them free advertisement, i know alot of guys with ranger, triton, merc, etc on jerseys who they aren't sponsored by.

You need permission on most.  We have permission letters from each company and it took a long time to get them They are on file with Rayjus. Some companies will not give permission to just anybody, SHIMANO is one of them. I spoke to them in person on the phone as I know them.. Other companies have statements filed saying that it is OK to certain people, others allow it to anyone. RAYJUS contacts each one before they make the shirts as well. If you want them just make the Jersey and it will be fine as long as you tell them to add the Bass College Logo on them .

It took almost 3 weeks to get the permissions when Tom and I made the first Jerseys as they actually had to be in writing from each one at Gemini. Some comapanies who make Jerseys are open to lawsuits as I was told directly from Shimano when were got the initial permissions Ask Tom, he will tell you how big of a deal it was.

I guess it's alittle different then putting a decal on your boat then.  I know there is alot of people that just get anything put on a jersey,  ie: Zoom, Bass Pro etc.!

Those particular companies allow it. Most others companies do not. And like Z said some places just want to make a buck or have permission from certain companies in advance etc but I will show you something. Call Gemini up and try to put a logo on a Jersey and see what happens. try to put on Shimano or St Croix or Dirty jigs, and see what they say. lol I already know the answer, but go ahead and try it. lol

I don't really understand why someone would want a brand on their jersey that they weren't sponsered by in the first place. Isn't that the whole point? Once I make a name for myself and have placed in tourney's and such (hopefully, that's confident thinking) THEN I will start looking at sponsors. If it's a place like Tackle Warehouse (I own one of their awesome jerseys, just cool looking) or a Bass College T-Shirt or something that I approve that REALLY made me a better angler, then YES i will wear it during tourney's, but not brands if they aren't sponsoring me. I know I sound mean, but I don't want to label myself too early and scare off another company that might be the best sponder I could get if I just prematurely put Zoom on my jersey.

All I can think about is bass fishing. Even when I'm not thinking about bass fishing, I'm thinking about bass fishing.

I understand your sentiment, but I don't really have any aspirations to be sponsored.  I will fish some tournaments (mostly small ones), but I'm really just in it to have fun.  And if I do well in those tournaments, I'm more than happy to show people what companies I like.  There are just some companies that I know work well for me and I want to support them any way I can. I do agree with you though: for guys that really want to get sponsored, this probably wouldn't be the best idea.
