Here is a very quick tip that helps me save money and catch more fish when fishing crankbaits in the heavy grass and logs so many of you guys like to fish them on: When you feel a possible snag, make a quick jerk of the rod, like a miniature hookset, instead of continuing to reel your bait in. Hope that helps, got a lot of questions about this on Youtube (this is for begginers).

Quick question about crankbaits. Not sure if its a stupid question but im gonna ask anyways. lol Can you use a crankbait with a baitcasting reel? i mean ive tried it but they just dont really go as far as when i had them rigged on a spinning reel. Do you use them on a baitcaster?

Absolutly! Try loosening up your brakes and cast control (to as far as you are able to). Once you get this down, you'll be able to cast it a mile. Its all about tinkering with your setup. And no question is stupid, this site is designed for people to ask questions and learn:)

You almost always use a baitcaster! Unless your really finesse fishing or dropshotting or a shakey head

Yeah man dont worry it took me like 3 months to get using a baitcaster down (didnt help that my reel broke) but once you start using one youll see they cast a MILE! If you want a reel for crankin thats cheap id get the Abu Garcia Black Max- $50, smooth as anything, and in a perfect gear ratio for crankbaits

Haha yeah i can cast it a mile with any other bait but cranks! But i think losening up my brakes was the problem. What would you consider a good gear ratio for cranks?

a good ratio would be slower in my oppinion like 5:1 or even 4:1 it doesnt matter as much as the rod though
