Just got back from a farm pond i frequent. Fished from 5:00 till 6:30. Just a little quick trip to tie me over since i haven't been in a week. The temp was 100 degrees on the dot with humidity at 37% making it feel like 108 degrees. My LP jigs arrived this morning, so i tied on the killer gill color with a green pumpkin zoom fat albert double tail grub trailer. The pond had a layer of green algae over about 60% of the top of the water. It was a thin layer with a gristley sand like texture that liked to stick to the line and anything else. I flipped the jig from the bank right up to edge of a thick growth of cattail bushes where the creek empties into the pond. The bass would come up to the top of the water trying to get dragonflies with pretty noticable hits about every 5 minutes. I fished the jig slowly, bringing it up and letting it fall every 15 seconds or so. In the short time i was there, i caught 5 bass. None were over 2 pounds, but i was still happy to be catching them. They sure did seem to like the jigs since one bass that wasn't much bigger than the jig itself swallowed it down to his gill plate. Hook set probably did him in since i fiddled with him for probably 20 minutes trying to get it out without hurting him. With the jig obstructing his entire mouth, coupled with the fact that i just got the jig today, made cutting it and telling myself he'd be ok was out of the question. Finally had to just muscle it out of the poor guy. But all other fish hooked and released perfectly. Very happy with the jigs so far. Can't wait to get it out to a bigger area with better temperatures and catch some fish worth snapping pictures of. Great job on the jigs Larry. | |
