JONATHAN GARRIE AND WAYNE TRIANA TOP 220 TEAMS AND WIN THE FIRST EAST TEXAS EVENT ON RAYBURN WITH 3 FISH THAT WEIGH OVER 20 LBS.

I had a good friend of mine fish this weekend Bass Champs East on Sam Rayburn. The water level has came up a good 10ft with all the rain we have had recently. The bite has slowe down this weekend with the good storm that made its way in last week. We had the oppertunity last weekend to Pre Fish and of course we slaughtered them. Yesterday was another story. Carolina Rig with a Watermelon Red Lizard and 10" Worm produced for those utilizing this technique. On another hand, spoon's produced lower number's but more weight. 3 Bass came in over 10#. If you are a Tournament Angler then you know that if you have an amazing practice and all goes perfect, you are probably in for a surprise come Tournament day. This was the case for my buddy as he caught 5 that pushed 8#. Just a week ago we caught 5 that pushed 21#.

JD Littleford BLOG for Bass Champs East Division (SAM RAYBURN):

Well I had a tough weekend and I am sure paying for it now. I would like to say that you hear many stories of great wins, So i wont to tell you about a great loss.

On friday night as we arrived to Sam Rayburn for registration and to check in to our Hotel, we realized that the weather man had put out some wrong information. Friday was suppose to be a high 0f 65 with a max of 5-10 mph winds. We were seeing 56 with 15-20 mph winds and rain. So when I checked the weather for Saturday, it said low of 39 and a high of 68 with 10 mph wind. Saturday morning at 4:45 am, I recieved a text from Bass Champs saying we could trailer due to the weather. Withought being outside yet I was worried. I walked out the front door to get a glimpse of a nice low temp of 30 with 25mph wind gust's. If you have ever been on Big Sam Rayburn or even any large lake with 25 mph winds then you will understand what I am talking about when I say that "THIS IS NOT GOOD". So we made the 35 minute drive to drop the Boat on the North side of the Lake to get us closer to our points of interest. First Cast was at 7:00 am and last Cast was at 3:00 pm with the weigh in at 4:45 pm. So we dropped in on the North end to allow us from having to be on the Main Lake with the 4 to 5 ft swells.

By 6:50 am we were on our first spot waiting for the clock to hit 7. We were fishing in a Channel that came off of a point were it dropped from 5 ft to 15 ft. I though for sure with the weather that is where they would be located. We threw cast after cast with nothing until 2:15 pm. By then we had 45 minutes left and 1 keeper in the boat taht was only 15". That would be it for the whole day. Not a single bite, hit, miss, or lost fish. My partner and I got a good understanding of when the bad gets bad. Not only did we only catch 1 keeper (or fish period) but by the time it was time to head back to the ramp, we could barely move. We had to cross the main lake 4 times and even being on a 21 ft Skeeter I Class, it was horrible on the whole body. I have Muscles hurting on my body that I didnt even know I had.

MORAL OF THE STORY:

We fished the entire 8 hours, caught 1 fish, and had the opportunity to find out that its not always "FUN TO FISH".

After going to the weigh in and talking with Dicky Newberry and a few other guys out there, we found out we did exactly the opposite of what the fish did. Easy Mistake. The wind was blowing 25 mph out of the NNW which was pushing all the bait fish to the South end of the lake. 1st and 2nd place had 3 weigh in over 19lbs, 3rd place was just under 19lbs and to about 5th place was 3 weighed in for 15 to 16 lbs. 27th Place was the last pay out and they weighed in 3 for 10lbs. Everyone that weighed in a good sack told me that they were on the South end of the lake because they did not want to fight the wind and they figured that the wind would push the bait South.

BE A GOOD PARTNER AND COMPETITIOR:

My partner was very upset as we got it handed to us. Over 50 Boats didnt even weigh in or even catch a single fish. I still got up there, shook the hands of the winners, and told my partner that we still have the next one and a few more. You can't win them all. In all Sports and competitions there has to be a loser just as there is a winner. My head is high even though my neck does not want to hold it up right now. I know what I have to do next time I have this challenge come down. This was a good experience and even though we didnt do very well, I got a lot of experience. I personally have never experienced that weather while fishing so now I know.

JD Littleford (Bass Champs/East/Sam Rayburn/Event #3)

The day started of well as we were flight 70 out of 230, very little wind, and water temp of 63. We knew our weigh in time was 3:20. We started off in shallow 2-5ft of water as we could see a lot of fish in that zone. We were able to put 3 keepers in the boat in the first hour putting us at 9lbs. This being a 3 fish limit Trail that was all we could give. As we continued to fish the rest of the day, it did not matter where we were at because the strikes were every other cast. We ended up catching 34 Bass total which gave us a 3 fish limit bag of 10.5lbs. We just could not find the big females that we were looking for. The beds had Buck Bass all over them but no females around or we just didn't present them with what they wanted. At 3:00 we knew we had to get back to weigh in which was a 10 minute ride to make our 3:20 weigh in. We started back and once we got on the main lake, we noticed that the wind had picked up very good and it was going to be very close to time as we were getting into 3ft swells. Lets just say that we were 6 minutes late, we lost some equipment, and our biggest Bass died in route to weigh in. So moral of the story is that we had a good day catching, but if you cant weigh in then it means nothing. We will have to get out there next time and play it out smarter. 3 Bass for 23.7 lbs won the event and you needed 12lbs to get a check.

Its a lot!, but you have watched me on video catch 20 lbs on three bass in the spring before and I am in Delaware and Maryland. LOL Its still a LOT though! It is not uncommon to catch several a day there in the spring at certain times in the right area that are over 10 and 11 pounds without a problem. I have seen bigger than that from there many times and multiple double digit catches in a day there in spring.
