Hey guys, I'm just looking or some good insight on my upcoming tournament. As you've probably heard, the Midwest here, Kansas, has a nice drought happening, and all water levels are very low. We have a tourney that is in a lake that normally has great cat tails and vegetation, but most of the veggies are out of the water now because of low water levels. It's a pretty clear lake. I'm just wondering what some of you would fish this lake with. I know popular baits are frogs, popping frogs, buzzbaits, beavers, chatterbaits and jigs. I know those baits listed will be what everyone else uses, and I know they will work, but is there any unorthodox baits I should use?

There will be bass in the deeper grass, and/or depressions, humps, rocks, etc off the main lake points and near the coves in the water that is between 10-20 feet deep. they will still hit topwater, etc but in those depths most of the time. Just move to the very first structure adjacent to where they were. Good electronics will show you these fish and you'll know it right away.

Thanks Steve. Do you think I'd be wise to start off with a buzzbait and work it until they don't hit it anymore? I know most guys think it is a frog lake, but I didn't have any luck with frogs there last time. Also, once topwater bite is dwindling, should I move to the areas you said and work a dropshot or football jig?

YES to all. And throw that crankbait too that runs about 10-12 feet deep when you see baitsfish, and this is a perfect time to use an Alabama rig on those open water deeper suspended bass, thats what it was made for.

EXCELLENT! I was looking for a perfect time to use the A-Rig. I have it tied on and was just waiting for the perfect time. Someone told me jerkbaits over points are great tactic here also, am I getting a load of BS or does that sound like it would work also? It just seems so many people in our club share info that I want to do something different sometimes. But, if the common things work, they work.

The jerkbaits will work but they work best in colder water and clear water, but there are times they work in other spots too, sometimes there are specific baitfish they imitate so they work, but an Alabama rig was created for hard to catch, deeper, suspended bass.
