I will comment more in the forums on this in the nJ section, but I would also have used some 6 lb line of the other stuff did not work, as well as a new small baby BBZ swimbait, But I would have also used a finesse jig in 1/8 oz modified by cutting away some of the inside strands with a small very compact chuck trailer.
I think a great question to ask is what other baits would you have tried considering the conditions of the lake they were fishing ? What other patterns could have been effective ? Clear, cold h20 would make me consider a small swimbait or a dropshot rig..Possibly even a splitshot/ mojo rig...They keep on mentioning "light lines"....I do not consider 8# to be exactly "light", however 4-5, even 6# lines are very effective. One considers the diameter & stiffness of the flouro, but there is also the vibration factor, the h20 displacement that is involved. A tiny small diameter line will "move" less h20 & therefore be less detectable by very large, smart bass. Giants do indeed eat peanuts....
