This is part 2 of the shore fishing segment for Delaware. Today I went to several downstate Delaware Ponds. The water had warmed to almost 58 degrees in Griffith's and Blairs and was 56 in Waggamons and Tubmill. These ponds are all located right around the Milford area, and Waggamons is in the town of Milton. The air temperature was 73 degrees, but we had a 20-30 mph wind blowing most of the day after 10:00 a.m. There were gusts around 35 at times. The baits I used today were a Storm swimbait in shad, a Terminator T-1 spinnerbait in white with Oklahoma blades, 1/2 ounce, and a small gold Rapala jerkbait. The live bait were 5-6 inch long Millroach, or Golden Shiners.
From 9:00 a.m. until 2 p.m. I caught 15 bass and 5 Chain Pickerel. They ranged from 1.4 pounds up to 3.3 pounds.
The majority of the fish, both Pickerel and Bass were xcaught on the swimbait. The key was to let it sink to the desired depth, then slap the rod twice, like Manabu told you he does with the "Mother", and then slowly reel it without imparting too much action. The bass really loaded up on it when they hit and fought really hard. This shows that you can catch numbers of bass and even some trophy bass from time to time, right from the shore.
Tight lines, Steve
