My partner and I started pratice on Oneida Lake early on in June, but found a pattern to hold till the tournament on the 19th. We fished the shoals in the middle of Oneida such as Dankin, Pancake, and Messenger. We caught some real good smallies out there, but so was everyone else We were using Senkos on a drop shot rig, just off the shoals in 8-12 feet of water. Also, I personaly caught the better smallies on a X caliber Zel pop in bone and chartuse color. They would crush it on the pause. Anyway, we needed a plan to find just as good water with less or no fishing pressure, being the fact it was opening weekend for Bass in New York. I set my 1198 humminbird to highlight all the shoals in the lake with a depth of 15 feet or less on the gps and wouldn't you know there were about 15 to 20 spots. So my partner and I ran to these humps or shoals and dropped a marker bouy, and drop shotted them with Senkos. Some had great smallies and some did not. For the pan fishermen out there,we caught some dandy bluegill out there too. The day of the tournament we did the same thing .We ended up with 8 smallies which weighed 21.26lbs to take 5th palce. I believe that it would of been a little better if the high pressure system did not move in..Tight lines Kenny G..

Kenny Thanks and Great report, and congrats on the fifth! Also, welcome, glad to see you made it. I am sure Tom and Vinnie will also be making a few posts here after they get rested a bit. I know Vinnie got some good pictures and I think some video which I will pick up in 3 days at the Potomac from Tom when i get there.

tom and i fished the tournament to. we were up ther for 4 days and man i did not want to come home i love it up there . and i highly recommend if anybody ever gets a chance to fishing up there they take it.. its just 1 awsome fishery the water was clear, we were there a month earlier than last year and the grass was not up like it was but we caught some smallies in 3-5 ft of water on the shoals near the bank but it had to be a rocky bottom and it seemed by the bedding areas were better.we were throwing the dirty jigs finesse jigs(which they dont make anymore short and simple and getting ready for the hudson river tourney next month cant wait (tom and i won the classic there last year but it was in the fall so see wat happens) i am giving my memory card to steve this weekend so hopefully everyone will be able to see the weigh in and some pics .. till then keep your lines tight and wet lol....
