I spent 3 days fishing Choke Canyon 2 weeks ago. I got to the lake thinking it was going to be a typical fall pattern happening, not... It seems like everywhere I go this fall the seasonal fall pattern just isn't happening. (I guess the bass don't know how to read) The first 2 days I was just prefishing and as soon as we caught a fish or had a bite or two we would move. We caught plenty of fish on chatterbaits, flipping the grass lines with a creature bait. Dragging a c-rig down points that had grass and rocks on them. The second day, the wind started howling as I am told it does quite frequently on these South Texas lakes, our bite changed big time this day. We put together a really nice pattern flipping grass lines in the trees in about 3-5 feet of water. The third day was the day for our competition and it was windier than it had been the last 2 days. We hit the same spots as the day before and managed one or two on the grass lines but, all in all, they weren't in the same spots as before. Due to the wind we were limited on where we could safely fish. Turns out, that the fish had pulled off the grass and into the trees in the same 3-5 feet of water. We grinded out the day by flipping and had a fairly successful day. This was my first real exposure to fishing in TX and it is true what they say, "everything is bigger in Texas" I am planning another trip back there and maybe I will throw in Amistad as well. I can't wait to go back. Oh yeah, water temps were anywhere from 64-68 depending where you were and when and if the sun hit. All in all it was a fun trip!

Tom, You need to go to OH IVIE. Also, if you go back, let me put you in touch with our friend, Lance Vick first, and he will meet you there since he fishes the pro tour, lives there and guides there, it will be a good time for you. Then you can get some video of it for us, and I will compensate you for it.

Oh the memories you have brought back from your trip. I used to live in San Antonio, and Choke was my home lake. I have had many wins and losses on that lake. And yes Choke will put a hurt on you with the wind and the waves that come with it. I have heard of many a boat being swamped out there. You have got to remember Texas doesn't really have a fall pattern until around after Christmas if even then. We used to flip grass and use frogs late into January some years.. Those fish on real windy days will move off onto the old roadbeds and tanks that are located in Choke. Good to here you had a great time at my old home lake...
