I realize this year probably wont be my year to get started with tournament fishing. I'll need a lot more money. I was going to co-angle with someone but I'm not sure if those plans will actually happen. I've decided just to try and hunt trophy bass. I'd like to just catch 7 plus pound bass.. wouldn't everyone.. but anyway I looked at some swimbait rods and reels on Tackle Warehouse. I'm basically gonna just plop my kayak into lakes this spring/summer and hunt some trophy bass with swimbaits and a swimbait rod setup. I'm not trying to spend over 400 on this setup, as I just finished buying a St. Croix Rage rod. Its always been my dream to make the record books. I need a nice entry level swimbait setup. The lures are expensive as hell too. I feel like it could be worth my time and money though... any suggestions?

If you haven't thrown swimbaits and are just getting started, my advice is to pick up a few before you jump in and buy a full swimbait setup. Get a couple hudds in the 6" range and throw them. The swimbait game is a whole different level of fishing. Sure you generally catch bigger fish but it could take anywhere from your first cast to a year before you catch a "giant". If you want to catch big bass on big swimbaits you have to commit to throwing that bait ALL day, even if you don't get any bites. Just because you tie on a 8" swimbait doesn't mean your going to catch a hog every cast. It's a mental game before you even get on the water.
