Day 1- Monday, Up at 4, in delaware by 7, met up with Ryan at around 8 to hit location X, a good number of fish caught, only a few were on hair jigs though, most came on bass pro XPS McCreatures in green pumpkin on a 1/8 oz CB jig head in watermelon. Monday night met up with Dubi for a few hours to hit IRI, easily 100 shad between the two of us, dubi got three really small stripes and one nice one around 22 on a 1.5 oz white diamond jig i made, i lost two, one that was 100% positive of being a keeper, the other i was unsure of and i got some ling cod dinner from the rocks.
Day 2, On my own, worked around the house, poured plastics, and went to Location X for an hour in the rain and got 7, one on the XPS McCreature, the rest on a Confidence Baits lemon pepper bird, all on a 1/8 oz jig head and got to see a nesting pair of bald eagles.
Day 3- Did a little bass fishing with Ryan and Dubi at location X, I got the only fish in the 3 ponds we hopped around to, about 3/4 lb on XPS McCreature, went home and poured a bunch of plastics for Ryan and tied a few flies for inlet long-lining.
Day 4- SUPER windy, met up with Ryan and went to hit the salt at around 7pm, iri was stirred up but comfortable with about 10 mph winds or less, headed to cape henelopen for a little while with 40 mph winds didn't last long, main meet up was too give him baits. Day 5- Met up with Ryan around 1 in Reho. to hit Silver lake for a little while. Well it was off and ended up going to another little private pond. Ryan got two 1lb fish, one on a texas rigged zoom finesse worm and one on one of my hand poured black floating craws, and lost another big fish that pulled him into the fountain. Day 6- Met up with Rich King of Delaware-Surf-Fishing.com who is a friend of dubi and I's for some surf fishing on 3r's beach on such a beautiful day, which we ended up getting stuck in the sand in someones rut from not airing down, a skate by rich's friend Kristen, and two skate and a dogfish by Chris Guest, left fairly early since no real action, then i went to Location X for an hour, at this point it had went from the warm daylight temp of 60 degrees to about 40, cloudy, and windy, anyone out and about in lewes/millsboro/reho. area saw what i mean, very quick change. The bite was off and shows being able to adapt is key, fished for about 50 minutes or so, switching finesse baits often, then i forgot about having something in the car. I know this area fairly well and even after the noreastern video with Steve, Ryan, and Mike, on Noxontown, Ryan and I came here afterwards and nailed fish on spinnerbaits and rattle baits and it was still crystal clear, but the 50 mph wind stirred up the bottom to a muddy color, the bottom could still be seen but only subtly, plus the commotion of people on new years eve on the dock did not help, switched to a brown floating confidence baits battle stance craw, and on the first good skip got one way under the dock letting it sit for 15 seconds then drag a few inches. About 1-1.25
Day 7, New Years Day, Met back up with Rich to go surf fishing again, another beautiful day but slightly more windy, standing inbetween the vehicles eliminated that, still no fish but stayed out a while anyway, stopped in IRI's south side, the water was crystal clear and the birds were working lots of bait off the end of the jetty. Went home got tackle ready, did a few things around the house, and Rich called me to tell me Old Inlet Bait & Tackle updated their facebook status that the fall run is now in effect. Dubi, his brother, and I had planned on coming up sunday all week but this just made us a little more pumped, well as im now convinced it is a sales gimmick because we know the inlet fairly well and didn't get one short and a few really big shad. Next weekend i get to go to west virginia to my grand moms! yay.... then off to the mighty susquehanna on the third for slumbering winter smallies!WOOOHOOO

awesome report alan. im glad someone is still actually able to get out this time of year. i got out on Dec 30th, but only caught 3 dinks. Was going to make a video, but no real point with under 3lbs outta 3 fish. You guys have got some nice boys down there lately, I'm jealous. With the prime fishing time now the same time as my awesome work schedule, I haven't got out at all or been round here much. I'm working on changing that around asap.

Nice job Alan on the report. Are the plastics your design or molds you picked up? That's an awesome fly tying vise you have there too.

Posts: 1411 | Chuck, I used to tie very seriously, sell flies online and in a local shop on my 400$ dynamic king vise which I sold this spring to put into this hobby. I find a vise grip and a piece of duct tape to hold it down I can tie just as I could with my vise just slightly slower, still have a few 100 in materials to sell. I used to tie fancy stuff to sell and Ryan and Dubi have seen them but I really only tie basic stuff that works just as well for myself.
