For the past month I've caught only about 3 fish. I fish small ponds and creeks but it has really slowed down for me Idk what to throw in now. Anybody have any ideas because my confidence is at an all time low right now.

Headed down to the potomac in the morning.  Feel free to join me and we will catch you some fish!    Being optomistic... bought tape for my thumb to keep it from being shreaded..   On a more serious note   what have you been throwing and what are the conditions of the water.  I have the same problem from time to time in the ponds around my house when it gets brutaly hot out.

Go before the sun comes up or after it goes down to better your chances. In the summer I either go big or go micro. I throw big swimbaits, big heavy jig and craw,or 10inch worms. If they don't like that I throw small finesse jigs,3 or 4 inch worms, and small crankbaits. Dead stick the worms or drop shot them. Fish slow and thoroughly.

Hey man. If you are talking bass, I might be able to help. Try down sizing your lures and slowing down your retrieve. If you know there are fish in the area and the water is somewhat clear, throw a shaky head worm. Keep it in the strike zone for as long as possible and just keep twitching your rod tip and keep your finger on the line to detect subtle pick-ups and bites. If the water is dirtier, go with a 4 inch creature bait texas rigged on a quarter once weight. Keep the bait in the strike zone for the longest period of time you can. Hop the bait up off the bottom, let it fall, wait for 5 seconds, and repeat. If these techniques fail to produce, try a small Panther Martin spinner and work that through the area. I wish you the best of luck!

Theres not much more I can tell you other than to read the articles and topics on summer bass fishing, and watch the videos on summer bass fishing and others I do, and take some of the basic Faculty Of Fishing Courses, then go out and try it. honestly, thats about it, its all been said in here it just takes some time to watch it all and read it all and then time on the water afterwards.

It isnt always what you throw but how you work it and where you are doing it.

So JP908 have you had better results now? Curious bc it has slowed down alot for me as well here in NJ. BTW, is the 908 in ur name bc of the area code? Curious bc then you'd be in the same area as me and I have some good spots and tips to share for Hunterdon/Somerset County bass spots. Good luck man

Ok, you're not that far away from me then. I'm basically where 78 and 287 meet. Let me know what lakes you fish and what's up by you, I wouldn't mind taking a ride to see what's up there. As for some advice, if the ponds are the typical NJ public type, right now is prob the worst time of the year bc of a few diff factors...pressure from the summertime families fishing, low o2 levels, and depletion of stock from people keeping the bass. Legal size is 12", but most ppl tend to overestimate the size of their fish, alot like guys do for other things haha, and that I think is one of the biggest reasons it's tough to get a bite. There's prob a bunch of small buck bass, males in the 1lb range in the typical jersey public pond. I'm convinced after catching ones with jaws destoryed by small snell hooks trailing 4 lb mono, that the ponds are simply too pressured for them to get much bigger. The sunfish, bluegill, and crappie are usually the dominant ones bc the state simply doesn't stock LM in alot of the ponds as much as they should and the poaching of shorts and even the legal length bass prevents it from being a good fishery.....As for what to throw, the Senko's (Dingers, Shim E Sticks depending on brand) are some of the best to use anytime of the year. I always have a 2-4/0 EWG tied on one of my rods, usually my Medium action Spinning Rod. Depending on size of the fish, I'll go to a bigger size and a Superline type that is thicker and thus heavier with a faster drop for summertime. Tubes are another great one in ponds here, change up the weight of the jig head or bullet sinker for diff falls. I am partial towards plastic creature baits texas rigged with a pegged sinker, preferrably tungsten, for flipping to cover or wherever you think/know there are bass holding. Fish it slow, bottom hop it, then go progressively faster and more erratic until they tell you what they like by getting bites. Spinnerbaits work best when it's windy and cloudy. Read all the stickies on the site here Steve the owner has every useful link on the net about bass fishing to help you learn. PM me if you want to meet up one day and fish a lake or float the river. Tight lines bud.
